post turkey weekend

well, we managed to have a great feast despite our limited numbers. As it happened, everything turned out perfectly and at the same time. I recommend a turkey breast for ease of preparation.
Mike V's cheesecake was a perfect ending; 2 of us finished it off on saturday.

Otherwise, a quiet weekend. The Advent liturgy and homily seemed to please the community at St Andrew's --------- lots of affirmation was gratefully received. Peg Snyder was in town and joined us at church. Kitty is having many complications from her broken hip, so I came home to make soup & salad for Peg and Tom.

Enjoyed the scene at Tally Ho and deeply miss being part of such scenes.
And already missing Maureen!!! She has been such a support for me: my fairy godmother with her magic wand.

A New Hampshire Thanksgiving!

Hi All ... Quite a day here... by 10:00 a.m. we had 4-6 inches of snow and we had to snowblow the driveway to prepare for our holiday guests. Cath, Mike, Neal and Evan arrived Wed. night.. Eileen arrived about noon and John, Nellie - their three boys - Grandma/Maryann and Nellie's mom - plus "Abby" their dog.
Sixteen for dinner - photo attached.
We had a great time and we're thankful to be together. Wherever you are and whomever you're with... hope your day was also a fine one!

When i went out to the car to go to Mahasen's yesterday, there was the "lost" earring, sitting right on the gear-shift panel !!! Since it had fallen off my left ear, how did it get there? The answer?
Good St Anthony. Don't laugh; you may need him someday.
Cloudy, cold, snowy weather in the forecast. I can't get snowtires put on til the 30th.
Drive safely. Mama

HAPPINESS
is being alive in good health one year after a quadruple by-pass

November 16, 2005

Family, this is the anniversary of the beginning of Family Aid for John. Whenever I looked up, I saw one of you attentive and concerned. Whether it was hospital or home or doctor’s office, you were there.

So the odds were good for this operation. Great! As long as they are less than 100% there has to be concern.

You all came through. I’m proud of you. I’m a better person for the experience.

Going into the Cardiac Rehab I was in better heath than most coming out of the same. Maureen’s thirty exercise routine used muscles long dormant and brought me to a higher level. I got so much more from the Rehab because of the routine.

I’ve walked up and down the inside stairs for thirty some year but never as comfortable as now with the handrail adjusted by Mike and Evan to my proper height.

I laugh now as I did then when I took my first shower and sat on a plastic deck table. The hot water weakened its legs and it collapsed in the tub. I’m not sure Cathie and Brendan were laughing with me, at least not at that time. The tub chair and the hand held water hose were the answer and Brendan got our former Edgehill neighbor to supply them.

I silently used harsh words (I can’t say cursed) when Sean got a parking ticket on Circle after he brought me home from a doctor’s appointment.

Hey, I’m not going to try and mention everyone by name but I do want to say Nancy! Nancy! That marvelous woman falls and has a brain concussion and fracture elbow and there she is taking care of me! The irony of it all. To want lengths I will go to get all the attention.

You all played an important part in my recovery. I appreciate it.

I love you all,
Dad, Opa and John

PS: Nancy and I along with Clare and Mike and, as a special bonus, Brian are off to Smoral’s tonight for dinner. We will toast: my recovery; your assistance in it; the Birthday Boy’s 77th ; the protestors at SOA; the selling of the Burke house and the Phoenix bound entrepreneur. There will be stories of all the animals we have had, how they left us and how much they meant to us.

I look forward to sending you all many more letters of appreciation on this anniversary date in the future.

Oma Says

A year ago today, downtown syracuse's favorite bike-rider was being unzipped by Dr Fink (a name not to inspire confidence). Long hours spent in a waiting room by some of his fan club. The patient, wrapped like a mummy, looked better than some of those who kept vigil.Twas a most eventful few weeks afterwards.Lesson #1 - get out of the hospital as quick as you can; they're all filled with pernicious germs. If you weren't too sick when you went in, you're apt to be a whole lot sicker when you leave.Another item on the autumn calendar - Eileen is going to France for a week. Check it out with her.Celebrating #77 at Smorols' tonite, along with Brian, Clare and Mike. That's it from wet & gloomy upstate.

Good and Bad

There was both good and bad Murray news yesterday.

Maureen signed a contract to sell her house.

Hobbes, a four-legged friend from Fairfield CT, was accidently struck by a car.

We are happy for Mo and sad for the Maisel family.

May the rest of the year be filled with more good than bad.

'Tis the Season

...of sunshine and blue sky in VA. We did not get any tornado after effects. Although it has gotten chilly - it will only go to 68 today. We're not having spectacular colors but you can't beat the weather.

I went to see "Shop Girl" with Maureen and Beth yesterday. i quiet comedy. No real need to see it on the big screen but it would make a good rental. I met M & B after their time at the Red Door Spa. They looked fabulous - years younger.

On the way home, i stopped by a Wegmans. they don't have any near my place but i think they have 2 or so in the outter suburbs. Packed. that's the word to describe it. the lot was Wednesday of Thanksgiving full. During my tour i did notice that they support NYS producers. they had NY apples - which i've never seen in VA, and Crowley dairy products. Maybe they'll ahve salt potatoes next summer. i'll have to check back. i felt good about giving them my money.

Oma says Brian is going over to rake some leaves. if they've all come off the trees, it's a good thing he's been working out. What a nice son and grandson.

I heard a story today. A husband was listening to an ad on the radio about a company making audio books available for downloading to iPod devices. His wife, a graduate of a fine, ivy-covered university was heard to say "I don't know why they'd do that. The screens are so small." The one problem the audio engineers had not considered - a small screen.

Time Change - No Change

FYI Singapore, like parts of Indiana, does not follow Daylight Savings Time; therefore them peoples is now 13 hours ahead of the east coast.

if it's 8 pm Friday for you, it's 9 am Saturday for them. Unless you're Sha - where it'd be noon for them.
